Mental Balance – Kirtan Kriya

KIRTAN KRIYA

“Do you want to pull in all the loose ends, focus and concentrate? Here’s a mantra to help you consolidate and change your habits. This mantra is a catalyst for change”

This meditation brings a total mental balance & through constant practice, the mind awakens to the infinite capacity of the Soul.

Practicing this meditation is both a science and an art. It is an art in the way it molds consciousness and in the refinement of sensation and insight it produces. It is a science in the tested certainty of the results it produces.

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine, and a light Neck Lock. Wrists are on the knees, arms and elbows straight, start with the hands in Gyan Mudra.

Eyes: Meditate at the brow point.

Mantra and Mudra: Chant Saa, Taa, Naa, Maa. With each sound, alternate through four mudras:

  • On Saa, touch the first (Jupiter) finger; Gyan Mudra (knowledge)
  • On Taa, touch the second (Saturn) finger; Shuni Mudra (wisdom, intelligence, patience)
  • On Naa, touch the third (Sun) finger; Surya Mudra (vitality, energy of life)
  • On Maa, touch the fourth (Mercury) finger; Buddhi Mudra (ability to communicate)

Each repetition of the mantra takes 3 to 4 seconds. This is the cycle of Creation. From the Infinite (Saa) comes life and individual existence (Taa). From life comes death or change (Naa). From death comes the rebirth of consciousness to the joy of the Infinite (Maa) through which compassion leads back to life.

In Kirtan Kriya you first chant out loud, then chant with a strong whisper, then mentally vibrate the mantra. To complete Kirtan Kriya you reverse the sequence, continuing silent chanting, then whispering, then chanting out loud.

“Although you do not have to know the meaning of the syllables, you may want to think about the concepts as you chant them. In fact, at one time Yogi Bhajan gave us some visual images to use while chanting this mantra. For those of you who would enjoy visualising, this is what he taught:

Time: 11 – 31 minutes

To End: Follow with one 1 minute of silent prayer. Then inhale, exhale. Stretch the spine, with hands up as far as possible; spread the fingers wide, taking several deep breaths. Relax.

Comments:

Each time the mudra is closed by joining the thumb with a finger, the ego “seals” the effect of that mudra in the consciousness.

Vibrating on each fingertip alternates the electrical polarities. The index and ring fingers are electrically negative, relative to the other fingers. This causes a balance in the electromagnetic projection of the aura.

Chanting out loud for 3-5mins, whispering for 3-5mins, and silencer 3-5mins, (the three languages of consciousness).

If during the silent part of the meditation, the mind wanders uncontrollably, go back to a whisper, to a loud voice, to a whisper, and back into silence. Do this as often as you need to.

Recommended: You may also want to try covering the head with a natural fibre cloth.

Deep Healing – Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung

RA MA DA SA SA SAY SO HUNG – Deep Healing

Ra Ma Da Sa, Sa Say So Hung is the mantra for sacred healing. This healing meditation is used to pray for healing energy for our friends, family, and ourselves.

For healing at a distance, this is the mantra. It cuts across time and space so you can send healing energy to someone thousands of miles away as easily as you can send it to someone across the room.

Practicing the mudra and the mantra properly will optimise the energy flow and will make this meditation all the more potent.

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose (sitting on the floor, with legs crossed) or in a chair with feet planted firmly on the ground, with the spine straight, and a light Neck Lock applied (chin pulled back slightly).

Mudra: The mudra (hand position) is most important. The elbows are bent down by the sides, and are tucked comfortably but firmly against the ribs. The forearms are almost perpendicular to the floor, with the hands extended out at a 45 degree angle from the center of the body. The palms are flat but not rigid, facing up, the wrists pulled back, fingers together. Consciously keep the palms flat during the meditation.

Eyes: Eyes are closed.

Mantra: This mantra consists of 8 basic sounds:

Ra Ma Da Sa, Sa Say So Hung

Translation:

Ra is the energy of the Sun: strong, bright and hot. It energizes and purifies.

Ma is the energy of the moon: receptive, cool, and nurturing.

Da is the energy of Earth: secure and personal. It is the ground of action.

Sa is the impersonal Infinity. The cosmos in all of its dimensions, openness, expansiveness and totality is Sa.

Sa is the impersonal Infinity.

Say is the totality of experience and is personal. It is the feeling of a sacred “Thou.” It is the embodiment of Sa.

So is the personal sense of merger and identity.

Hung is the Infinite, vibrating and real. The two qualities together (So and Hung) mean: “I am Thou.”

This mantra taps into the energies of the sun, moon, earth, and the Infinite Spirit to bring deep healing. It is important to pull the navel point powerfully on Hung. Note that the word Hung is not long and drawn out. Rather, it is clipped off forcefully as you pull in the navel. Chant one complete cycle of the entire mantra with each breath. Then deeply inhale and repeat. Remember to move the mouth precisely with each sound. Try to feel the resonance in the mouth and in the sinus area.

Mental Focus: Let your mind concentrate on the qualities that are evoked by the combination of sounds. You can choose to mentally visualize the person or persons that you are wanting to heal, as you send this energy to them for their well-being.

Time: Continue chanting for 11 to 31 minutes.

To End: Inhale deeply and hold the breath, as you offer a healing prayer. Visualise the person you wish to heal as being totally healthy, radiant, and strong. See the person completely engulfed in a healing white light and completely healed. Then exhale and inhale deeply again, hold the breath, and offer the same prayer again. Exhale. To complete, inhale deeply, stretch your arms up high, and vigorously shake out your hands and fingers for several seconds. Exhale and relax.

Comments: This mantra has eight sounds that stimulate the kundalini to flow in the central channel of the spine and the chakras, accompanied by metabolic adjustment to the new level of energy in the body. It also balances the five zones of the left and right hemispheres of the brain to activate the Neutral Mind.

The first part of the mantra is ascending and expands into the Infinite. The second part of the mantra pivots those qualities of the highest and most subtle ether, and brings them back down. It interweaves the ether with the earth.

Certain mantras are to be cherished like a beautiful gem. This mantra is just such a jewel. It is unique and it captures the radiant healing energy of the Cosmos as a gem captures the light of the Sun. Like a gem it can be put into many settings for different purposes and occasions. When Yogi Bhajan first shared this technology he gave a series of meditations that use the inner dynamics of this mantra. If you master any of these practices you will be rewarded with healing and awareness.

Welcoming Love – Sa Tar Tar

Sat Kartar

  • This meditation is beautifully fun & soothing at the same time. The mantra gives you access to knowing the truth of your heart. Opening up new possibilities and welcoming Love.
The “Sat” in the mantra is first identifying the Soul’s True Sound(means Essence of Truth, or Being) It is said that directly behind the heart is supposedly where the Soul resides.
“Kartar” means Walker of the Truth. When these primal sounds are repeated/affirmed over time, as a practice, we are in effect, opening, expanding, and directing the energetic FLOW of the Heart.
This heart-opening mantra calls our souls to be experience.
  • Posture:

Sit cross-legged in a comfortable position (easy pose/ half lotus), close your eyes, focus on the third eye, apply slight neck lock.

Firstly, as you say “SAT”, the hands are pressed together in prayer mudra at the centre of the chest

As you say “KAR” extend your hands out from your shoulders, halfway toward the final position, with fingers pointing straight up.

As you sat “TAR” fully extend your arms out to the sides, parallel to the floor and with the fingers pointing up.

Coordinate the movement with the mantra and find your rhythm.
Repeat for 3-11 minutes and feel yourself opening and expanding on each repetition of the mantra.
